Outstanding book: clear, concise, and thorough. Anyone who is interested in attending the Air Force Academy should read this book. If you are seriously interested, read it several times. This book gives you the power to maximize your competitiveness for an Academy appointment, then gives you the tools needed to survive the rigorous Academy lifestyle. As an Air Force Academy graduate and Admissions Liaison Officer, I strongly recommend this book. It is a highly effective road map to achieving the goal of becoming an Air Force Academy cadet and Air Force officer.

As a 1988 graduate and recent staff member at the Academy, I'd highly recommend this book for anyone interested in ANY of the military academies. I've heard a broad spectrum of opinions and advice concerning the Academy, and this book is right up the middle. It's written in plain English and leaves nothing out. So much of the challenge of an academy is the shock or disappointment of unanticipated challenges--but this book can lessen that shock. The testimonials from freshman cadets, upperclassmen, and graduates ring true and are an excellent aid to preparing for the Academy. The info on getting in is presented very well, and the advice for being sharp during the interview process is worth the price of the book. I'd especially recommend this book to people who already have an appointment or nomination, because it really helps get your head in the game before going to USAFA.

As a young woman who is serious about attending the United States Air Force Academy, "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" has guided me through the labyrinth of applying. In the admist of vying for the congressional nomination, and preparing physically, academically, and mentally, this book written by William L. Smallwood and Sue Ross, has given me advice, motivated me, and made my dream of attending the Academy attainable.
If you are curious about the Academy, I suggest you purchase a copy, for it portrays the school realistically. And furthermore, if you are serious about applying, "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" will be the most important book you will have ever read. It was for me.
