Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
"The Bible not withstanding, this is the greatest book ever written." An advertisement the author intended to take out in, The St. Petersberg Times. "This book should be required reading for everyone in the world." From an advertisement the author tried to take out in the, ............The New Yorker Magazine. "I know this man,..........he's stupid. But he tells a good story." A general consensus of those who know the author. "If God hasn't stopped him, he must be proof that I exist, ...... ......Mephistopheles! This is a collection of humorous stories I recall from my time in the service, and shortly thereafter. It is my nature to poke fun at things I find funny, or in some cases, sad. Most, almost all, of these recollections are accurate, but a couple have been embellished a little where they needed help. I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars Among the most enjoyable, humorous, career biographies ever.   October 23, 2008
James C. Perry (Savannah, GA)
This is a true career biography of a man entering the USCG at the bottom, and rising through hard work and dedication to a senior officer. The short stories and or anicdotes describing true-life experiences follow Mr Meininger's career time line, and are most humorus and actually very exciting. I was very sorry when I came to the end as I wanted to read more.

I wish that more servicemen would take William Meininger's lead, and perhaps with the advent of self-publishing, they will. The late author had a wonderful wit, and understood that "humor in uniform" is quite a popular theme in America.

Doing what the author did, moving from the enlisted ranks to the officer corps of the Coast Guard, is not unheard of, but it is rare. He made another leap, too, from the decks of boats to the cockpits of helicopters and planes, exploring all angles of search and rescue operations.

His chapter on visiting a Navy dentist is absolutely priceless. Let's hope that men and women of all of the U.S. services will read this book and realize that what they encountered in their careers is history, too, history that people who never served are interested in learning about.

I knew the author who recently passed away. I was stationed with Bill at Cape May New Jersey; my first duty station in the Coast Guard. I have personal knowledge of some of the things described in the book and enjoyed reliving them. Yes, the job could be fun and often those times are the ones you remember. I have 26 years of memories and enjoyed reading Bill's. The nice thing is you do not have to have a military background to get a kick out of this read.
